My Study Habits

Phase 1 of my IS101 class has been full of ups and downs throughout the semester.  I started out being one of the only people who didn't do the first bonus quiz. It took me a while before I hit my stride, but eventually I was able to catch up.  That was until I went out of town for a weekend and allowed myself to fall behind again.  After a week of cramming, I caught up once again and received a perfect score on my Microsoft Word exam.  Now that I am comfortable with my assignments I have used my sporadic motivation to get too far ahead to fall behind and plan to continue this trend.

I found assignment 4.7.4 very interesting because I wasn't even aware that it was a feature.  This lesson taught me the use of a 3D model in Microsoft Word.  I found it very useful to bring an extra dimension into the paper that could be used to showcase a 3D model.

Although I have already taken the MO-110 exam, I am still very excited about the upcoming Excel exam.  I believe the Excel Exam will be much more useful to my career.  I hope to be a CPA one day, and navigating Excel will be a very important skill along my journey.

To close out this post, I would like to share a method of study that helps me, and is likely to help others similar to me.  I have recently been setting a 5-minute timer when I begin an assignment that allows me to opt out of continuing once the timer is up.  It sounds very counterintuitive, but the idea is that usually starting an assignment is the hardest part.  Very rarely do I get 5 minutes into the assignment and want to give up, so it has helped me get started, and it is seemingly downhill from there.

Conner Spooner - An Introduction to My Online Presence

(A)  Hello, and welcome to my blog. My name is Conner Spooner, and I am a sophomore at the College of Southern Nevada. I have lived in Las Vegas since I was 5 and graduated from Palo Verde High School in 2023. My hobbies include snowboarding, hiking, camping, and traveling. I have gained a greater appreciation for these activities since my ability to participate has been hindered for the last couple of years. This year was the first year since 2022 that I could snowboard since I tore my labrum the previous time I did, alongside an ACL tear I endured earlier in the year playing soccer. 3 years later, I am about 80% healed, and in the second-best shape, I've been in my lifetime, with aspirations to only get better. These two life-impacting injuries resulted in me adopting a lifestyle centered around an appreciation for the aspects of life we often take for granted. One of these blessings is my ability to get a higher education, and I look forward to my IS101 class.

(B)  I didn't know what Information Systems were when I enrolled in the class. I took the class because it is a requirement for my degree, and I got very excited when I realized it revolves around computers and Microsoft Office applications. This is because we are entering a society where if you refuse to expand your knowledge of computers, you will get left behind. I see it already with my little brother. He is 14 years old, and he can navigate around his laptop much better than I due to having more exposure. It was a huge red flag when I came to this realization because it showed how incompetent I may seem in the job market if I don't get up to speed.

(C)  I have already been pleasantly surprised in this class and learned the reason behind something I have been doing for years. I used to play a lot of video games when I was in high school, and with anything that involved technology, I was often met with technical difficulties. Occasionally, I would encounter a recurring issue where my game couldn't finish its startup. At some point, I learned to clear the game's cache, and it would shortly resolve my problem. This week, I realized that this cleared my issue because my game files got corrupted, and clearing the cache removes the temporary corrupted files.
